Manuel Antonio National park is a protected wild area is located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica , in the canton of Quepos in the province of Puntarenas , seven kilometers south – east of the city of Quepos , and about 157 kms. south of San Jose. Manuel Antonio National park was created on November 15, 1972. It covers an area of 1,983 hectares in the land part and 55.210 hectares in the marine part .
The Manuel Antonio National Park is rich in flora and fauna, which are recorded 352 species of birds, 109 species of mammals, varied marine life and 346 plant species. In the area it is common to see species of birds like the toucans, pelican or hyacinth, the Chocuaco, osprey, green kingfisher and chirincoca. It is also possible to observe iguanas, lizards and snakes. Among the mammals are the raccoon, the coati, the agouti, sloth two and three fingers, the white-faced monkey and the marmoset. It is important to note that during the rainy season, the abundance of food and water in the inner part of the forest allow animals to sustain themselves in better shape, unlike the dry season, where they look for food in areas close to the beach .
