How to Select Materials JACO tube fittings are made in the following 4 thermoresins:( P)Polypropylene:(20 % glass filled for better strength. )Opaque flat white color, (most white of JACO Fittings). Product temperature rating is -30 ° F to 225 ° F. Polypropylene( PP) is a workhorse in the plastics industry. The general physical residential or commercial properties of polypropylene resemble those of high-density polyethylene, (PE), however PP has a harder durometer and is more stiff. It is also more resistant to ecological stress breaking than PE. Polypropylene (PP) is lightweight and high in chemical resistance. It is unaffected by alkalis (bases), salts and many weak acids, (particularly hydrochloric and phosphoric acids). Below 175 ° F it has excellent resistance to natural solvents. It is not suitable for oxidants, strong acids, chlorinated hydrocarbons, high concentrations of free chlorine, and fragrant substances (such as benzene and toluene). PP is really inert, thus popular for high purity applications such as deionized water, and so on. Prevent use in constant sunlight. N.S.F. 14 licensed, N.S.F. 61 certified. Tensile Strength of 4,500 psi increases to 6,400 psi with glass fill. Durometer = 70D to 80D, (Autoclavable– yes).

(N) Nylon 6: Nylon 6 is an off-white, really light gray colored material (a little whiter than PVDF product, but not as white as Acetal). Because of Nylon’s adaptability it is among the most extensively used thermoplastics. Nylon 6 is a difficult, strong, abrasion-resistant material with outstanding effect resistance, both single and duplicated. The material temperature level rating is between -40 ° F to 250 ° F, and it has great strength at heats. Since Nylon naturally soaks up water it is generally not preferred for damp applications. Moisture serves as a plasticizer, lowering tensile strength and stiffness, and increasing elongation. However, as moisture content increases, substantial increases occur in effect strength and energy soaking up characteristics. Dry state residential or commercial properties will return as the material dries. Nylon has excellent chemical resistance to natural solvents, oils, hydrocarbons, and fuels. Nylon 6 has poor chemical resistance to strong acids and bases. It is not advised for use with ammonium, boric acid, calcium, sulfuric acid, or hydrochloric acid. N.S.F. Listed. F.D.A. Listed. Tensile Strength = 8,800 psi, Durometer = 75D to 90D. (Autoclavable– No).

(K) PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride): PVDF has a semitranslucent cloudy off-white appearance. It is superior to other fitting thermoplastics in abrasion resistance and chemical resistance for dealing with extremely destructive fluids. It has impressive strength over the largest working chemical variety. The material is rated at -80 ° F to 275 ° F and has a working temperature variety for fittings of -40 ° F to 250 ° F. PVDF’s effect strength is over two times that of PVC, and is very long lasting and abrasion resistant under mechanical abuse. It also has exceptional aging resistance, with its properties remaining constant after several years. PVDF also has impressive fire resistant properties. In the Underwriter’s test PVDF was offered the highest classification (V-O), showing that it was non-flammable and selfextinguishing. PVDF has excellent chemical resistance against strong inorganic and natural acids, aliphatic and fragrant hydrocarbons, and halogenated solvents such as chlorine and bromine. PVDF is not ideal with fuming sulfuric acid, focused alkalis, hot bases or bases having a PH > 12. PVDF is FDA certified, absolutely non-toxic and can be used in repeated contact with food products. N.S.F. Listed. Tensile Strength = 5,900 psi. Durometer = 75D. (Autoclavable– yes).

(C) Acetal Copolymer: Acetal has a shiny slippery white appearance that might yellow over time. It has high tensile strength and good wear resistance over a broad series of temperatures. The product is ranked at -40 ° F to 200 ° F in open air, and ranked for 180 ° F in hot water applications. Not impacted by continuous hot water service and works efficiently with metal and difficult surface tubing.

Note: Acetal copolymer can not be advised for continuous direct exposure to solutions with a chlorine concentration higher than 1 ppm. (Lots of water treatment centers use up to 4 ppm of chlorine concentration.) Acetal is unaffected by formaldehyde, oil, alcohols, and the majority of inorganics. However, it is not suggested for usage with acids. Good resistance to methylethylketones and has low moisture absorption rate. Listed by U.S.D.A and F.D.A. for usage with coffee, milk, and antibiotics. Also N.S.F. Listed. Should not be continuously exposed to sunlight (UV). Tensile Strength = 8,800 psi, Durometer = 90D to 95D. (Autoclavable– No).
