This is my first trip to Costa Rica Costa Rica I visited the capital city San Jose and also a the beach town of Jaco Beach. I must say I didn’t even begin to explore all that Costa Rica has to offer so I assure you I’ll be back.
is a rugged, rainforested Central American country with coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific. Though its capital, San Jose, is home to cultural institutions like the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, Costa Rica is known for its beaches, volcanoes, and biodiversity. Roughly a quarter of its area is made up of protected jungle, teeming with wildlife including spider monkeys and quetzal birds.
San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital, sits in the Central Valley region with the Talamanca Mountains to the south and volcanoes to the north. The city is distinguished by its Spanish colonial buildings, like the ornate, neoclassical National Theatre of Costa Rica overlooking downtown’s Plaza de la Cultura, a popular gathering spot. Below the plaza, the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum displays hundreds of gleaming artifacts.
The bustling Central Market is filled with vendors and small restaurants (called sodas) serving local seafood, while the Mercado Nacional de Artesanías offers handcrafted goods. Morazán Park contains the Temple of Music pavilion, where concerts are held. La Sabana Metropolitan Park is home to the national stadium and the Costa Rican Art Museum. Popular nightlife destinations center on El Pueblo outdoor mall and its bars, plus the funky bars of the San Pedro and La California neighborhoods, both near the University of Costa Rica.
